A-1 Skyraider Vietnam Era camouflage paint masks set

Re-usable die-cut paint masks

The set includes two sheets of pre-cut masks (shown in the picture). The masks are made from thin masking tape, which is easy to be peeled off and doesn’t leave any stains. The tape is tested on clear and painted model too. If carefully removed after painting, they can be used over and over again. It is flexible and easily applied over curved surfaces. Semi-transparent for easy and accurate placing.

Douglas A-1

Skyraider was a single-engine, propeller driven plane that first flew in 1945 and entered service shortly after WWII. Despite not being able to participate in the biggest conflict of the Century, later the Skyraider flew combat missions in Korea and Vietnam, as well as in many other smaller conflicts. The aircraft was unusual for its times, being a slow propeller driven bird flying amidst jets struggling for more and more speed. Nevertheless, A-1 was quite successful at what it was used for and was a basis for the famous Fairchild A-10. Latter was the jet that filled that niche after Skyraider’s retirement. A-1 was used by USA, France, UK, Vietnam and many others. Skyraider was also the very first gun air-to-air killer of the Vietnam Air war, which, for a prop-driven plane was quite unusual. Its first kill was North Vietnamese MiG-17, recorded on 20th of June, 1965.

Vietnam Air War

was the battlefield that Skyraider made history at. A-1 was used by US NAVY, Marines and Air Force. The camouflage of the Vietnam Era was used by the Air Force only, but is the most memorable of the Skyraider paint options. This DN Models mask set covers the earth tones camo used by USAF and it is based on the brilliant 48th scale Tamiya tooling of the Skyraider. It can be used with other toolings of quarter scale Skyraider, due to high accuracy of Tamiya’s kit measurements. The earth tones used for USAF Skyraider camouflage are similar to those used with F-4 Phantom and F-104 Vietnam Era Camouflages
