British Biplane De Havilland Tiger Moth
From a student pilot's perspective, the de Havilland Tiger Moth was a stable and easy-to-fly aircraft, forgiving of minor mistakes by novice pilots. It quickly gained a reputation as "easy to fly but difficult to master", making it the ideal initial training aircraft for the large number of pilots being prepared for operational service during World War II.
At the start of the war, the RAF had around 500 Tiger Moth aircraft, but later requisitioned hundreds of additional machines from flying clubs across the country.
