Suggested kit: F-4E, RF-4C & RF-4E Phantom II kits from Zoukei-Mura, MENG, Hasegawa
Re-usable die-cut paint masks
The set includes two sheets of pre-cut masks (shown in the picture). The masks are made from thin masking tape, which is easy to be peeled off and doesn’t leave any stains. The tape is tested on clear and painted model too. If carefully removed after painting, they can be used over and over again. It is flexible and easily applied over curved surfaces. Semi-transparent for easy and accurate placing.
Israel F-4s
were initially delivered in 1968, although the country expressed interest 3 years earlier. France imposed embargo was the reason for the delay. It was the Six-Day War that boosted the Phantom acceptance in Isreali Air Force and subsequently made the jet legendary for the IAF. The double ugly is credited with over 100 victories fighting under the Star of David. Israel used mostly F-4Es, however RF-4C were also used in the first couple years, followed by RF-4Es later on. The recce Phantoms in Israel was the basis for the ultimate variant of the F-4 – the F-4X that never saw the light of day. The F-4X was a Mach 3+ fighter, that was abandoned in favor of the then developing F-15 Eagle project. F-4X was planned as a high-speed, high-altitude recce variant with modified high-speed intakes and conformal tanks.
F-4 Phantom II
in Israel service wore a distinctive desert camouflage scheme, utilizing the landscapes of the region. It was very effective and was used on most of the Israeli jets since, up until /but not including/ the F-35. The camouflage scheme varies from plane to plane, with similar outlines in some squadrons and completely different in others. Several F-4Es from Israeli Air Force can be seen in actual aerial footage in the 1980s action flick – Iron Eagle II. The IAF F-4Es were used in the movie as a substitute for Soviet MiGs, however the camo scheme is the typical Israeli one. DN Models’ mask set gives an option for that camouflage and is based on various reference materials, however, it can be altered or completely changed, based on your specific project and/or reference photos. Israeli Stars Stencils are included in this mask set as a bonus.
