F-4EJ Phantom Forever 2020 demo scheme paint mask set for the Zoukei-Mura kit

Suggested scale: 1/48

Suggested kits: Zoukei-Mura SWS F-4 Phantom II F-4EJ Family

Re-usable die-cut mask set

The set includes three sheets of masks (shown in the picture). The masks are made from thin masking tape, which is easy to be peeled off and doesn’t leave any stains. The tape is tested on clear and painted model too. If carefully removed after painting, they can be used over and over again. It is flexible and easily applied over curved surfaces. Semi-transparent for easy and accurate placing.

Phantom Forever 2020

is a demo scheme commemorating F-4 Phantom II retirement in the J.A.S.D.F. Retired in late 2020, this was the last demonstration paint scheme applied on a Japanese Phantom. Phantom Forever 2020 blue painted F-4 is available in several variations as a scale model kit. Most sophisticated of those is Zoukei-Mura’s representation, which is Limited Edition. This set covers the same scheme and it is designed specifically for Zoukei-Mura kits and for modelers who didn’t manage to get examples of the Limited Edition variant. The scheme should give similar results using F-4EJ in standard gray camo, released from ZM in the summer of 2021. This set also corrects the Zoukei-Mura decal sheet that features error in the final appearance of the ribbon. The plane that wore that scheme was from 301 sq. of the J.A.S.D.F. with number “436” and serial number 07-8436.

F-4EJ

kits featuring that scheme are available from Hasegawa as well. Both in 48th and 72nd scale they represent fairly accurate F-4s, however, those are inferior to Zoukei-Mura’s release, which represents the best F-4 kit in any scale. Decals dedicated to Phantom Forever 2020 Blue Phantom Demo Scheme are available on the market, however for most realistic results, using masks is strongly encouraged. The paint scheme features large parts that should be covered with decals, which is challenging and often leads to unsatisfactory surface results. With masking, this problem is eliminated. Not everything can be replicated with masks, due to some limitations. This mask set features everything that you see on the cover of DN Models’ product. Additional decals will be needed, but those are only for the minor details.

The masking set

that you see here is one of the most complex schemes that DN Models ever created. It is highly recommended to have previous masking experience, due to the many layers and different colors that are to be applied over the 48th scale Phantom when using this set. Additional masking might be needed, as well as cutting and/or adjusting the masks depending on your personal building process. One example is that the tongue in the mouth on the nose of the airplane is missing. The tongue itself should be hand painted. This mask set is not suitable for beginners. Testing with the extra masking tape before using the mask set itself is strongly recommended for best results.
