IJA/IJN Experimental Interceptor Mitsubishi J8M1 Shusuii
The Shusui was Japan's first rocket-powered fighter, jointly developed by the Imperial Japanese Army and Navy. Aiming for groundbreaking performance at the time, with a maximum speed of 900km/h and an altitude of 10,000m in 3 minutes and 30 seconds, the development was based on the German Me163. Its first flight was on July 7, 1945, but it crashed and was destroyed. It continued to be modified after that, and although there were high hopes for it as a trump card for intercepting B-29s, the war ended without it ever taking part in actual combat.
