IJA Ki-10-II Type 95 Perry Kato's Fighter Squadron

The Type 95 Fighter, the last biplane fighter of the Imperial Japanese Army, was also piloted by Captain Takeo Kato (at the time), who later gained fame as the commander of the "Kato Hayabusa Fighter Squadron." The 1st Squadron of the 2nd Air Battalion, led by the captain, was formed shortly after the outbreak of the Second Sino-Japanese War in July 1937, and immediately advanced via Mukden in China. It played an active role in the attack on Luoyang and in the great air battles over Chitoku. The unit began deploying the latest Type 97 fighter aircraft in April of the following year, but the captain continued to use the Type 95 Model 2 as his favorite plane until he returned to the mainland at the end of May.
