IJN Type 96 Carrier-based Fighter II Mitsubishi A5M2b "Claude"
The Type 96 Carrier Fighter is said to have pushed Japan, which was lagging behind Europe and the US in fighter design at the time, to the top level in one fell swoop. Jiro Horikoshi, the chief designer, later reflected in his book that it was even more satisfying than the Zero Fighter. Among the Type 96 Carrier Fighters, the early model of the Type 2 Model 2 had a closed windshield, which was rare at the time, and a distinctive fuselage shape.
