Kamikaze World Record Flight Japan to Europe 1937 Mitsubishi Karigane Aircraft (Ki-15)

To celebrate the coronation of King George VI in London, the Asahi Shimbun Company acquired a prototype Type 97 airborne reconnaissance aircraft, which had not yet been approved for official adoption by the Army, with the aim of setting a new record for the fastest flight to London. Although there was no air route between Japan and Europe at the time, the Kamikaze departed Tachikawa on April 6, 1937, and arrived in London on April 9 after a travel time of 94 hours, 17 minutes and 56 seconds, setting a new world record for the Asia-European air route. At the time, Japan was considered to be underdeveloped in aircraft development, and this record was met with amazement and praise from all over the world.
