Macchi C.202 Folgore Camouflage paint masks set

Re-usable die-cut paint masks

The set includes one sheet of pre-cut masks (shown in the picture). The masks are made from thin masking tape, which is easy to be peeled off and doesn’t leave any stains. The tape is tested on clear and painted model too. If carefully removed after painting, they can be used over and over again. It is flexible and easily applied over curved surfaces. Semi-transparent for easy and accurate placing.

Macchi C.202

was a WWII fighter, developed and produced in Italy by Macchi Aeronautica. Folgore /meaning Thunderbolt/ was very respected by the pilots who flew it. More than 1100 were built and it remained in service until early 50s. Further development of the Folgore was C.205 Veltro, which was produced in more modest numbers, but remained in service longer compared to C.202. Folgore’s shape is very elegant, which added to the popularity of the plane. The aesthetics of the plane was not its sole quality though. Many experts consider Folgore’s potential as a significant achievement, despite the fact that it is often obscured by legends like Spitfire and Bf109.

Camouflage

of the Folgore is rather typical for the Italian Air Force during the Second World War. The spots and the colors used were memorable and attractive part of the plane. In addition to that, the camo scheme was very effective as well. Many Italian planes of the era wore similar patterns and that makes them very recognizable. Similar camo schemes were used even on Luftwaffe’s Bf109 early models. This mask set covers basic outlines of the spots and can be used to exactly replicate the pattern, but it can also serve solely as a basis for the outlines. Additional effects can be recreated with free-hand airbrushing techniques over the spots. The set can be used on Machhi C.202 Folgore, as well as on C.205 Veltro.
