Supermarine Spitfire Type B Camouflage Paint masks set

Re-usable die-cut paint masks

The set includes one sheet of pre-cut masks (shown in the picture). The masks are made from thin masking tape, which is easy to be peeled off and doesn’t leave any stains. The tape is tested on clear and painted model too. If carefully removed after painting, they can be used over and over again. It is flexible and easily applied over curved surfaces. Semi-transparent for easy and accurate placing.

Supermarine Spitfire

is a British-made, propeller driven, single-engine fighter airplane, designed in the mid-30s of 20th century. It was used extensively during WWII, with later versions remained in service after the war. Spitfire was one of the fastest and most maneuverable fighters of its time. The plane was intended to be a short-range interceptor, but surprisingly, its prototype was a float-plane. The original design was made by Reginald Mitchell. Spitfire was the arch-enemy of Germany’s Bf109, a similar concept designed for Luftwaffe. However, Spitfire’s elliptical wing, as well as its superb engine, are the reasons for which latter is considered superior aircraft.

Spitfire Camouflage

is a paint scheme with variations of colors, sometimes ranging from warm earth tones to light gray nuances. There were two patterns of the camo – A and B. One was the mirror image of the other. This mask set represents camouflage type B. Within DN Models’ line, Type A Camouflage pattern is also available in 48th scale, as well as in 72nd. Different nuances and colors can be seen, mostly dictated by shortages of paints during WWII. However, due to lack of colored pictures, exact paint numbers can only be guessed. Nevertheless, Air Forces who used Supermarine Spitfire kept /mostly/ the outlines of the pattern and it is to one’s personal preferences to find the proper type and shade of paints. It is best to follow your model’s instruction sheet or your personal research on the specific aircraft you are building.
