U-2C Dragon Lady Early/Late Model High Altitude Reconnaissance Aircraft

Instruction

    The U-2A is powered by the 10,500 -pound thrust J57-P-37A engine produced by Hewlett- Packard (Pratt & Whitney) . In 1958 , the U-2A replaced the 15,800 -pound thrust J75-P-13A engine and upgraded it to the U-2C . In 1959 , in order to increase the air intake of the U-2C engine, the intake port was modified and enlarged. In 1966 , the U-2C was replaced with a 17,000 -pound thrust J75-P-13B engine, and the air intake was modified again. In 1967 , the redesigned U-2R with more endurance and more payload began to fly. By 1968 , the U-2R had replaced the heavily depleted U-2C , and another series of U-2 fleets had entered service.

  The U-2A was initially equipped with a Pratt & Whitney J57-P37A engine with a thrust of 10,500 pounds . In 1958 , he upgraded to the U-2C and at the same time replaced the engine with the J800-P-13A , which has a thrust of 15,800 pounds . In 1959 , the intake port was greatly improved to increase the amount of intake air. In 1966 , the intake was further expanded to accommodate the J57-P-13B engine capable of producing 17,000 pounds of thrust . In 1967 , the newly designed U-2R , which is more durable and has better payload, started test flight. In 1968 , the U-2R replaced the heavily worn U-2C as the flag bearer of the new U-2 series.
